SEASON 2 IS OUT NOW!
NEW: RUDE x Digital Justice Lab
TUNE IN FOR TWO NEW EPISODES OF YOUR FAVORITE PODCAST.
After RUDE’s pilot season the team spread out around the world to pursue new adventures. But we couldn’t shake the fact that there was so much more RUDE to share. We got together with the incredible Digital Justice Lab to tackle some big questions about tech and society, building on one of our pilot season episodes— “The Future of Activism”. In this 2-episode series, RUDE dives into the networked world of privacy, surveillance and digital justice. We set out to show every millennial ever why we should all be more concerned with privacy, as we have invited tech and the companies that create it into our most intimate spaces. And then, we set out to figure out just what the hell we can do about it so life doesn’t turn into a series of Black Mirror episodes. Tune in now!
PART 1: NOTHING TO HIDE
In this episode, We talk to Brenda McPhail, the Director of Privacy, Technology & Surveillance Project at the Canadian Civil Liberties Association and Franz Voltaire, an award-winning Haitian human rights activist & academic, and the founder of the Human Rights Film Festival in Montréal. Privacy, as we've come to learn, is not about keeping secrets: it's about social and political control. We want to know what 'tech for the people' looks like, and how we can stay connected without the eavesdropping, snitching, and behavioral mapping of our lives. In this digital reboot of social justice, we ask our listeners to think twice about the systemic consequences of unethical software.
